MLBA Youth Umpire Program

The Mt Lebanon Baseball Association trains youth umpires, ages 12-18, to officiate games for our Pinto, Minor, and Major divisions.

MLBA Youth Umpires are:

Trained by MLBA volunteers with significant umpire experience.
Provided all the necessary protective equipment and receive an MLBA umpire shirt to wear during games.
Paid between $15 and $30 per game, depending on division and # of umpires.

Responsibilities of MLBA Youth Umpires:

Show up on time, take charge of a game, and create an environment for kids to have fun playing baseball.
Learn, interpret, and enforce the rules of the game.
Make quick, accurate decisions.
Balance umpire commitments with school, playing baseball or other sports, and/or other activities.
Keep track of assigned games and communicate any concerns, questions, or problems to in a timely manner.

MLBA Youth Umpire Program Requirements
Candidates for the MLBA Youth Umpire Program must be able to meet the following requirements:

Age: Umpires must be at least 12 years old as of January 1st of the current year.
Pre-Season Training: Umpires must attend pre-season training. See website for dates and times (typically held in early/mid April)
Mid-Season Training: Umpires must attend the mid-season training. The dates for these sessions will be determined during the season.
Available to Umpire: Umpires must be ready and willing to umpire at least once per week during the season.
Game Reports: Umpires must file game reports within 2 days of an assignment.

* There is a $15 registration fee for all youth umpires to cover the costs associated with coordinating the program.

Pre-Season Training

MLBA Youth Umpires are required to attend ONE of the Pre-season Training Sessions AND the Umpire Mechanics Clinic.

Please wear shoes appropriate for the gym.

Umpire Mechanics Clinic
Middle Field
March 26th, 2020 and April 4th, 2020

5:45-7:15pm (Attend if Last Name starts with A-L)
7:15-8:45pm (Attend if Last Name starts with M-Z)

Please wear appropriate clothing for outdoor activity and the turf field.

* Please make every effort to attend your designated date and/or time based on last name. If you are unable to make your designated date/time, feel free to attend the other session.
