TRAVEL BASEBALL PROGRAM
MISSION STATEMENT

The Mt. Lebanon Baseball Association (MLBA) sponsors Travel Team Programs for age levels 8 through 14. Travel Baseball is exactly what the term references. Traveling to other communities throughout the area to play in tournaments.

The Travel Team Committee based upon eligible and interested candidates, qualified managers, and adult supervision within each age level, determines the number of Travel Teams yearly. MLBA will sponsor and support no more than 3 teams at the 9,10,11 & 12 age groups, and no more than 2 at the 8,13 & 14 age groups.

A serious time commitment is necessary to participate on a Travel Team as practices and tournaments generally begin at the end of June and run through the month of July and on occasion the first week of August. Any in-house game that the travel players may have takes priority over any and all travel games.

Each individual Travel Team manager coordinates playing time. Due to the competitive nature of this program, we do not guarantee equal playing time for all participants as skill levels vary within each age group. Travel Baseball is competitive baseball played against other local communities. We do strive to provide as much playing time as possible for each participant.

A fee form each participant will be required for uniforms, equipment, and tournament fees. The manager, once selected for a Travel Team, will advise you of this fee. (Fees per child range from approximately $90 to in excess of $150 for older age groups.)

Several key points of the tryout process and participation on a Travel Team are:

Tryouts are scheduled in conjunction with MLBA guidelines.

  • Tryouts are scheduled to enable a fair selection process to occur which will develop teams with the most competitive participants.
  • In-house team managers and coaches evaluate each individual player throughout the season and their input is used in the final evaluation process.
  • Criteria for player selection will be based upon ability and skill level evaluations for throwing, hitting, fielding, running, and attitude.
  • Once evaluations are completed, the rosters of each team in each age group will be posted at the Dixon Field concession stand on or before the second Saturday in June.

There are a limited number of roster slots on each team (12-15), which means not all candidates will be chosen for a Travel Team. Regardless of the outcome, participation on all Travel Teams is determined yearly and that continued participation in MLBA will be beneficial to a child’s long-term development.

These factors should be taken into consideration in making your determination to participate on a Travel Team. Any questions can be directed to any MLBA Travel Committee member or contact us via E-mail at: mlba@lebobaseball.org
