Code of Conduct

The Mount Lebanon Baseball Association ("MLBA") requires that all Managers and Coaches agree to abide by the following Code of Conduct. Players, Parents and Spectators are also expected to abide by the spirit of this Code:

The by-laws of the MLBA together with the rules of each league, travel age group and the Mission Statement of the MLBA are incorporated herein by reference as though set forth in their entirety. Managers and Coaches shall abide by the Rules and Policies outlined therein.

In order to Manage or Coach a team in MLBA, an individual must not have been: convicted of a violent crime as an adult, or convicted or adjudicated of a sexual crime at any time in their lives.

Managers and Coaches will use best efforts whenever and wherever practicable to assure that they are not left alone at a team event with members of their team without another adult present. (Team event is defined as practice, game, team party or any other team function)

Wherever and whenever required by league rule, Managers and Coaches shall require players to wear helmets with face masks, heart guards, and any other safety measure directed by the MLBA. See Specific League Rules.

Managers shall exercise best efforts to assure full team participation in the annual fundraiser and in the annual photo day. Team pictures not only serve the purpose of providing members with a memory of their team, but also equally as important, they are provided to sponsors on a plaque in appreciation of their continued support of MLBA. In the event of an unavoidable conflict on the scheduled photo day, Manager shall reschedule the picture with the official MLBA photographer such that the pictures are available by the required deadline for sponsor plaque orders.

Managers shall assure to the fullest extent possible that their team is in the uniform prescribed by the MLBA for that team in that league for all games, fundraisers and team photos. Mangers should address players’ use of “travel” or other associations’ pants or caps during in-house games by issuing a warning to the child and having a discussion with the parent(s). Manager shall report subsequent violations to the President.

Managers and Coaches and players should be on their best behavior on the field. No Manager or Coach should argue with the umpire, other manager, coaches or parents. Managers, Coaches AND PLAYERS - Swearing or name-calling is prohibited. Positive chatter only. No physical contact with another player, coach, manager, umpire or spectator, other than incidental contact during play.

No alcohol, tobacco or drug use by any player, Manager, Coach or umpire is permitted at or on the field of play.

Never use unfair play or intimidation to win.

Managers shall return all equipment to the Equipment Room as dictated by the VP-Equipment by the deadline, to be determined and provided.

ALL MANAGERS and COACHES MUST SIGN the Code of conduct Form and return it to the league Commissioner prior to the start of the season.

The number of travel teams per age level will be determined by the Travel Team Committee based upon participants, qualified Managers and support and interest within each age level. Within each age group, the teams will be referred to as Blue, Gold, White etc.

All travel team programs will be under the direct jurisdiction and supervision of the Travel Team Committee and the Board of Directors of the MLBA.

UMPIRES:

Students in Middle School and Sr. High school who desire to become umpires as well as any adult who wants to umpire can check the Umpire section for the people to contact and fill out the registration form on that page. Note: You will be PAID for each game.

MLBA will have training classes for all present and future umpires.

Check the Umpire section for dates and the Calendar of Activities, information on the dates will also be announced in the Middle schools and Sr. High school as well as on cable channel #19.

WEATHER POLICIES:

MLBA has the following weather policies in effect for the protection of the players, coaches, and spectators:

LIGHTNING: As soon as lightning and/or thunder are detected, the playing field will be CLEARED. Players will wait in cars or in a closed shelter. They WILL NOT wait in dugouts, under trees, or in an unclosed shelter.

WET CONDITIONS/RAIN: If the playing field is such that puddles are present and the field is slippery, and a dangerous situation exists, the field will be cleared and the game canceled. The canceled game will be rescheduled if at all possible.

COLD WEATHER: Use common sense in dressing players. Baseball can and will be played in 40-50 degree weather when determined that no dangerous situation exists for the players. Spectator comfort is not an issue. Note: Western PA has cold, wet springs every year!

DARKNESS: This should be viewed with the players' safety in mind. This is the UMPIRE'S DECISION. They are in as much risk as the players. When seeing the ball is a problem, the game will be called. Little League rules concerning completion of a game will be used. If the game is not complete, it will be rescheduled if possible.

MISCELLANEOUS:

No manager can overrule an umpire's judgment call.

Ground rules for each field cannot be changed from game to game.

Managers can dispute a rule interpretation, not a judgment call, provided dispute is presented in a calm, gentlemanly manner.

Umpires have the right to eject anyone, including parents and spectators, from the field of play for unbecoming conduct. This is a baseball rule, not a Mt. Lebanon rule.

Most serious disputes occur when one side feels the opposite side is intimidating it.

Managers are encouraged to attend all Coaches Clinics and CPR training. For more information, email us.

KNOW YOUR RULES AND KEEP IN MIND THAT THE PURPOSE OF THIS ORGANIZATION IS TO TEACH KIDS TO PLAY THE GAME OF BASEBALL!

Most of all, THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME AND ENERGY!

Dear Friends of Mt. Lebanon Baseball:

As an all-volunteer organization, MLBA provides opportunities to the youth of Mt. Lebanon to participate in the great game of baseball. Each year, approximately 1,100 children participated in our various programs, from 6-year-old T-Ball League players, up through the 18-year-old American Legion team. Our financial responsibilities include:

  • Full uniform for every player in each league
  • Official baseballs for every league
  • Complete set of catcher’s equipment for each team
  • Field maintenance and upkeep
  • Paid umpires from Minor League and up
  • Operation of Dixon Field concession stand
  • Public utility charges for lights at Middle and Dixon Fields

While every player is charged a registration fee, this unfortunately does not cover all expenses. For a donation of $250, your firm or business can help us in our endeavor to provide first-rate opportunities to the children of our community. In addition to our team sponsorships, we hold only two fundraisers during the year, which allows us to keep each player’s registration fee low.

Your sponsorship provides your firm the following:

  • Company Name on your sponsored team’s jerseys
  • Framed photo of your sponsored team
  • Listing on this website www.lebobaseball.org in our Sponsors section. If your company has a website, we will provide a direct link to your site.

Below is the application form to be sent with your payment. On behalf of the parents and children involved with MLBA, we thank you for your support. Any questions, please contact us by Email and we will have someone contact you immediately.

We would like to gratefully thank the following sponsors for their participation and help in supporting the children who participate in the Mt. Lebanon Baseball Association. Without their support our association would not be able to provide the completeness of a baseball program that we now enjoy.

For the entire association and the all players, We Thank You!

The current list of Sponsors is not yet available.
