Information is only provided as a possible resource to parents and players of the MLBA. Parents must make their own judgement as to the quality and usefulness of the programs and information provided in this section.

1).  PROSPECTS NEWSLETTER:  West Penn BB Prospects will no longer be publishing its periodic newsletters. Instead, they have started a blog that they will use to post news or opinions on a daily or near daily basis. The blog is accessible on the website (www.wpabaseball.com). He is  tired of doing the newsletters & think the blog is a better fit for what he is trying to do. This will not affect the monthly prospect listings &  bios, which will contine as before.  If you have any news or thoughts about what should be in the blog, let Tony Villiotti know at wpabaseball@hotmail.com.

2). SEMINAR:  The Wilfred Cameron Wellness Ctr of The Washington Hospital will hold a Free Throwing Shoulder Seminar on Tues, Feb 16th at 6:30 pm.  Two of their sports medicine physicians will be there to discuss shoulder & elbow injuries.  They will have one of the players for the Washington Wild Things, Chris Sidick, there to discuss  the proper throwing motion.  If you have any questions or concerns, contact Danielle Violette, Certified Athletic Trainer at either 724-250-5212 or dviolette@washingtonhospital.org

3). MEETINGS: Atlantic Coast Select League Meetings will be held in Trafford: for 9U & 10U on Mon, 2/22 7pm; 11U on Tues, 2/23 7pm; 12U on Tues, 2/23 8:30pm; 13U on Weds, 2/24 7pm; 14U on Weds, 2/24 8:30pm; 15U on Thurs, 2/25 7pm; 16U on Thurs, 2/25 7pm; 17U/18U on Thurs, 2/25 8:30pm For more info, contact Matt DeSantis, All American BB Ctr at 412-380-7000, x102 or <desantis@allamericanbaseballcenter.com> or see their website: www.allamericanbaseballcenter.com

4).  FUND-RAISING:  Fund-raising opportunities thru Slippery Rock Sliders at Jack Critchfield Park: purchase tickets at ½ price & earn income for your association; choose your home date to promote & recognize your league. Opportunity for league players to run out on field with Slider players. 1-3 association designates will have opportunity to throw out first pitch & receive complimentary gift & picture from Sliders. 5).  SEARCH FOR PLAYERS:  The Seneca Valley Palomino, a team in the West PA Elite BB league are searching for a few 18U players.  If interested, contact Walt Patsilevas at  mrpatsi@zoominternet.net, 724-272-2627, or www.svpalomino.com.

6).  CLINIC:  The Thomas Jefferson HS program is having clinic for kids ages 4-12 to help the program & to help young kids today learn more about baseball as well as have fun.  It will run 2 days; Sat, Feb 20th (2 sessions) for ages 9-12 &  the following week on Sat Feb 27th for ages 4-8 in the morning.  They will conduct a Coaches Clinic in the afternoon on the 27th for any coach who wants to learn some new drills, strategy, motivational tools,or another view to teach the game we all love.  All proceeds benefit the TJ HS  players, coaches & the cost, which at at $35 a session & $25 for the coaches session are reasonable.  If interested, contact Rich Krivanek, Head Coach at either 412-260-3980 or ichkrivanek11@comcast.net

7). TRAVEL LEAGUE:  This is a Sunday travel league for 9U to 14U which is used to supplement travel teams with a higher more competitive level of play than traditional rec programs.  This will be the first of two meetings. Teams can schedule weekday games if their rec schedules permit.  They are looking for individuals to run each age group.  The 1st mtg will be held on Thursday, Feb 18th at 7:30pm at the Peters Twp VFW upstairs mtg room, 460 Valleybrook Rd, McMurray, PA 15317.  It will  determine who intends to participate & to work on rules.  The March meeting will be for finalizing everything & scheduling: there will be no fee. 8).  SEARCH FOR PLAYERS:  The Steel City Spartans 13U travel team is
searching for 2 more talented players interested in playing competitive baseball.  They play locally in the Atlantic Coast Select League & travel out-of-town for several tournaments.  They have indoor & outdoor facilities, professional trainers/coaches, and offer all of this at a reasonable cost.  If interested, contact Bob Sharp at randsmgmt@aol.com or 412-377-7925.

The Greentree SportsPlex will hold 2 leagues over the next few months:

1 - Indoor Baseball League for ages 8U(coach pitch) - 12U

  • From March 27 - April 15th
  • League includes 5 games + 3 practices (1.5 hrs each)
  • This is a great way to get your team prepared and to get the season started in the first couple weeks of April while the weather is bad
  • Don't worry about in-house baseball conflicts. We will have a flexible schedule to work with

2 - Indoor Hitting League (4 vs. 4) in our batting cages

  • For ages 9U-17U from February 13th-March 27th
  • All games on Saturdays, 1 hr each game

Free Pitching Lessons

My name is John Pateras

I am offering "free pitching lessons" to anyone in the MLBA between the ages of 10 to 12 years of age.

My pitching philosophy comes from Tom House (ex major leaguer).  I have attended several of his pitching camps.

The 3 main areas of pitching emphasis are:

1. confidence

2. the mechanics of pitching

3. a sound baseball body
